The four-volume series originally aired from the month of April 20, 2000 – August 8, 2002. Kodansha released the series in two bunkobon (a small format Japanese paperback book that is affordable and saves space) on May 26 2006. An e-book of the combined version of the two bunkobon was also released on June 18, 2016. The four-volumed series Daibu (Drive) has been made into manga series, a feature film, and an anime television series.

Dive: Manga Adaptation

The Manga version incorporated five volumes also written by Eto Mori, was published by Shogakukan’s Shonen Sunday comics between 2007 and 2008. It was illustrated by Masahiro Ikeno. Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine announced that a new manga adaptation which Ruzuru Akashiba will illustrate would be published. In Anime Expo 2018, Yen Press announced that they had licensed the new manga adaptation.

Dive: Film and Television Adaptation

A film which Naoto Kumazawa directed, starring Kento Hayashi based on the novels, was released in 2008. The anime television series aired on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block from July 6 to September 21, 2017. The opening theme for the was ‘Taiyo mo Hitoribocchi’ (The sun is also lonely) was performed by Kyoto-based band Qyoto. Kaoru Suzuki was the director of the series; the series was made in the Zero-G studio. Yuki Hayashi was in charge of music composition, and the scripts were under Touko Machida. Dive: Story and Introduction (Spoiler Alert)

With his completely own free will, he is determined to follow in his parent’s footsteps. Sakai Tomoki is now old enough to dream about and follow his wish to be in the same profession as Fujitani. To get one step closer to his dream, Sakai Tomoki joins the Mizuki Diving Club (MDC) some years before. Unfortunately, after some passage of time, Mizuki Diving Club is facing some perils financially and is on the verge of closing. This puts Sakai Tomoki’s dreams at the risk of being broken and dying. Kayoko Asaki, a diving coach in Mizuki Diving Club, has a plan to prevent the club from disaster. Mizuki Diving Club must now demonstrate to be one of the best diving clubs in the whole of Japan. In order to be so, they have to send at least two of their athletes to the next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
