In a June 9th interview with GQ’s Sam White, Druckman said he’s already given some thought to what comes next in the ruined, near-future world of Joel and Ellie. In his own words, While that’s far from a solid confirmation, it seems like a safe bet to assume that the series will indeed continue.
What To Expect Here On Out
HBO recently ordered a pilot based on the franchise, which will be directed by Johan Renck, known for his work on Chernobyl, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. Druckmann is to write the pilot alongside Renck’s Chernobyl collaborator Craig Mazin. If the HBO show gets a full-season order, that’s likely to spark interest in the games amongst a broader audience. This was also the case with “The Witcher”, on Netflix. There is another big clue that we haven’t seen the last of “Last Of Us”. Sony’s recent Playstation Studios announcement is quite an obvious sign that the company plans to go all-in on expanding its IP beyond games in the coming years. The first game, operating in relative isolation has made it evident that we have seen only a small part of this world with Ellie and Joel. Even though much of the population has been decimated by the Cordyceps infection, there are still countless new faces to meet and stories to tell within a setting as rich as this. If part 3 is top of the list for Druckmann, this seems to suggest that the Cordyceps infection isn’t eliminated or brought under control by the end of the second game, this is because of Druckmann’s comments that suggest something about the ending of “Last of Us Part 2” is not so much what happens, but what doesn’t happen. That’s been pretty well telegraphed by the game’s trailers so far, but it’s pretty clear TLOU 2 isn’t going to have the kind of happily ever after ending that Nathan Drake found at the end of Uncharted 4. The release of Last of Us Part 2 is set for June 19th, 2020 on the PS4.
What Is “The Last Of Us” About?
“The Last Of Us” is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Players control Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across the post-apocalyptic United States. It is played from the third-person perspective and is only available on the PS4. Players use firearms and improvised weapons and can use stealth to defend against hostile humans and cannibalistic creatures infected by a mutated strain of the Cordyceps fungus. In the online multiplayer mode, up to eight players engage in cooperative and competitive gameplay. The development of the game began in 2009 soon after the release of Naughty Dog’s previous game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. For the first time in the company’s history, Naughty Dog split into two teams, while one team developed “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception”, the other half developed “The Last Of Us”. Upon its release, it received critical acclaim, with praise directed at its narrative, gameplay, visuals, sound design, characterization, and depiction of female characters. “The Last Of Us” soon became one of the best selling video games of all time. The game also won year-end accolades, including multiple “Game Of The Year” awards from several gaming publications, critics and game award ceremonies. and has been cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. And so with the release of “The Last Of Us Part 2”, it seems like players can expect a Part 3 of the series soon, though there has been no word of solid confirmation, it seems like the obvious move forwards.
